Our Beginning

In 2006, Dr. Bro heard God's call to start a spiritual community in Virginia Beach.  She had interviewed with many churches for several years, not finding a match.  Finally, in the middle of the night in near-desperation, she asked God for a hint of the community's name she was to serve.  The words came, clear and soft: "Living Waters."  "Hmm," she mused, "Lovely name, but I don't remember seeing that on the UCC website!"  She finally heeded God's call to start a new spiritual community here in Virginia Beach and the rest is still unfolding!

Our Mission/Vision Statement

Living Waters Sanctuary is a progressive, universal Christian community, Christ-centered and yet open to truths of other religions and cultures.  We welcome those of any race, culture, or sexual orientation. We seek to build bridges of understanding between cultures and spiritual paths, and to celebrate our unity and responsibility on our precious home, the earth.  With body, mind, and spirit, we worship with love and joy! 
    

Who we are today

We have recently aligned with the Emergent Village movement.  Steve Hansen is the contact person for the exciting discussion groups that are developing around new forms of spiritual community.  For more information, see www.emerginghamptonroads.org.

Our work and witness together include:
-Working with homeless youth through Stand Up for Kids
-Helping the Hispanic community
-Welcoming and supporting the LGBT community;
-Feeding the homeless;
-Participating in interfaith dialog and events;
-Supporting peace & justice initiatives;
-Cleaning the Bay;
-Book groups and spiritual growth groups.
